He also isn't playing when it comes to supporting Brightside, Mayor Jerry Abramson's beautification endeavor.
So Stevenson likes to wear a limited-edition Derby-themed tie by Vineyard Vines available at Parallel 38, 3905 Chenoweth Square. It's $95 - $5 of which benefits Brightside.
The ties feature a repeated design of a thoroughbred racehorse and mint julep cup. They're available in red, dark royal and yellow, and only 1,000 will be sold.

Camel Weekender ($935)
Most luggage can be categorized as either functional or stylish. Sandstorm Kenya makes a line of bags that are both, as well as downright luxurious. They arealso very, very durable. Many are made with camel hide, and it's hard to imagine a material tougher than that. The African company started out making high-quality safari tents and each of its handmade bags is both beautiful and practical.
The Weekender (22 by 7 by 15 inches) has reinforced corners and a bunch of inside pockets of different sizes. The leather comes from North African camels euthanized because of old age. The company donates a portion of overseas sales to Kenya's Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. To view the collection of canvas, cowhide, camel and tweed products, go to www.sandstormkenya.com. The Weekender, and several other Sandstorm bags, are available locally at Parallel 38 in Chenoweth Square, (502) 895-3559. |

Patagonia Men's Island Hopper Zip-Off Pants
While you probably won't need these convertible trousers in the hot and humid Ohio Valley for the next couple of months, they could come in handy if you are going to the mountains or the coast, somewhere that it's cool in the morning and evening and warm in the middle of the day. The durable poly/nylon trousers, which offer 30+ UPF sun protection, have zip-off legs that turn them into shorts. They are quick-drying, too, in case you get caught in a storm or your canoe capsizes. And they are supposed to have a jaunty, wrinkled look. It's the fabric. Don't try to iron them or they will melt. (I will not tell you how I know this.) You can get a pair at Parallel 38, 3905 Chenoweth Lane in Chenoweth Square, (502) 895-3559. $75.

Tommy Bahama women's Bermuda shorts ($110)
These handsome Bermuda shorts might be the perfect duds for your summer sailing or hiking adventure. They are made of durable cotton twill with just a touch of Spandex so they give in all the right places. But there's another way that these shorts are "smart." In the lining of the right hand pocket you'll find a printed message: "For when you get caught with your pants down." This is followed by a list of the telephone numbers of American embassies around the world, starting with Argentina and ending with Zimbabwe.
And yes, you could stash your cell phone in the pocket. Parallel 38 in Chenoweth Square stocks the shorts, available in women's sizes 2-14. The store's phone number is (502) 895-3559. |
